A Somerset mum has been telling us she's hopeful the temporary closure of Yeovil's maternity hospital will help fix ongoing issues.

Yeovil District Hospital's closed it's maternity services temporarily due to "concerns Concerns about the safety of the care for babies and children" and a shortage of staff.

Annie Tombs gave birth at the unit in 2021 and has been telling us of her experience.

She said: "My experience just wasn't great, from being left in undignified states for long periods of time.

"I had the matron come in and tell me to be quiet because I was making too much noise during labour.

"I'm relieved in a sense that this is going to put a stop to it but at the same time it causes me concern.

"There's going to be lots of added pressure on the maternity services that we do have.

"There's a lot of mum's coming forwards now and saying this happened to me, it's a lot more than just doctors not turning up because they're sick."

The trust says its not a decision its taken lightly - and apologises to those who are affected.

A petition to save the unit now has more than 4 thousand signatures.
