Somerset's NHS Foundation Trust is hoping to change the stigma around baby loss - by holding a number of memorial services this weekend.

It's as we come to the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week - a week-long opportunity for us to remember little lives gone too soon.

All week on Greatest Hits Radio, we've heard stories of Midwives, Mums and families - all whose lives are impacted by baby loss - and with baby loss estimated to happen with every 1 in 4 pregnancies, it's way more common than many think.

To round-off this important week, Somerset's NHS Trust are joining a number of memorial events happening across the region to bring awareness and get people talking.

Baby loss memorials and events

Across Somerset, these are just some of the events taking place, as we come to the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week:

  • Friday, October 14: Annual Angel Tree Service of Remembrance, 6.15pm, St John's Church, Taunton
  • Saturday, October 15: Wave of Light Service, 6.30pm, St Mary's Church, Bridgwater
  • Saturday, October 15: Wave of Light Service, 7-8pm, St James' Church, Yeovil
  • Saturday, October 15: Wave of Light Remembrance, 7pm, SNICU Garden, Musgrove Park
  • Saturday, October 15: Wave of Light Remembrance, 7pm, garden behind the Maternity Unite, YDH.

Events across the week have aimed to being people together across the baby loss community, help raise awareness, and find ways to remember and commemorate those babies who lost their lives - all in aid of breaking the silence to what some misconceive as a 'taboo' topic within society.

Everyone across our region is encouraged to attend - with the 'Waves of Light' event on Saturday there to honour every life lost.

Together, attendees will be lighting candles, sharing images of candles and coming together for a moment of reflection.

In addition, both maternity units at our region's hospitals will see trees of remembrance - giving anyone the chance to leave messages.

If you, or anyone you know, is impacted by baby loss, and would like to find out more or get help - visit Tommy's.
