A Somerset disability charity has been telling us they're outraged at the welfare cuts announced a week ago by Rachel Reeves.

The Chancellor made changes to personal independence payments, carer's allowance, and universal credit.

Reeves told MPs in the commons that "it can't be right" that some people were improperly using personal independence payments.

The changes to the welfare system are designed to save the government five billion pounds by 2030.

Dan Scorer from Mencap said that for the last week since the announcement they've " had large amounts of people calling" who are "mainly anxious, asking how can they go on if they lose the money."

Dan continued: "We've been trying to make it clear to people that these changes won't be coming in until next year, so try not to worry for now.

"There's a lot of work between now and then and we'll have to see if we can improve the situation and try to convince the government to roll back on some of the massive cuts they're making."

A DWP spokeswoman said the government would continue to "deliver a social security system for those with severe health conditions and protect the income of those who would never be able to work".
