Somerset Cricket induct Joel Garner into 'Legends Wall'
1977 Somerset Cricket debutant Joel Garner is the fourth player to feature on their new Legends Wall development
The 'Legends Wall' at Somerset Cricket continues to take shape - with the club today inducting 1977 debutant Joel Garner as the fourth member.
Today (27 March), the side have revealed Joel's being added to the development, with bosses hailing him as an 'integral' player during the 'Glory Years' of the '70s and '80s - in which the side 'dominated the domestic one-day game'.
The West Indian pace bowler first played for Somerset against Australia at Bath in 1977.
He went on to feature in 94 First Class matches and and 128 List A matches for the County.
During his time with the club, he claimed 338 First Class wickets at an average of 18.10 with a best of eight for 31.
In List A cricket, he took 206 wickets at 15.15 with a best of six for 29 against Northamptonshire in the 1979 Gillette Cup final.
Joel Garner now joins Sir Vivian Richards, Marcus Trescothick and Lord Ian Botham on their new showcase of some of the best sportspeople to have have played for the club.
The wall itself is being constructed as part of their 150th year celebrations - with the side 're-imagining' what they currently call the 'Hall of Fame'.
Bosses at the club say the new Legends Wall creates 'a more befitting memorial to our greatest ever players' - and it'll be unveiled next month, on April 18th.
