The new Somerset Council met for the first time today - ahead of officially taking charge in April next year.

The elections at the start of May resulted in overall control of the authority for the Lib Dems.

The current district councils will continue to operate until the formal change in around 10 months.

Today the new leader, Cllr Bill Revans, unveiled a number of priorities - including for a councillor in charge of cycling infrastucture and development.

Today the Taunton Area Cycling Campaign revealed the council has been awarded £1,023,000 by the Department for Transport for Active travel.
