Shindig to close after this year as focus moves to farming
The festival's organisers have given an update saying the decision comes with a 'heavy heart'
This year's Somerset Shindig Festival - with a DJ set by Groove Armada and the Brand New Heavies topping the bill - will be the final one.
The event - scheduled for May at the Dillington Estate near Illminster - started a decade ago as a party for friends of the Ghetto Funk record label.
In a statement this morning, organisers said: "It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that 2024 marks our last year of Shindig Festival.
"What an amazing journey it has been with you all. It has become increasingly difficult for independent festivals to operate in in the current climate. We know we’re not alone and many other festivals are in a similar situation.
"The last two years at Dillington Estate have been magical but, as you already know, they are moving away from festivals to focus on farming.
"So, we have decided that our time as Shindig Festival will also now come to an end after May.
"We care too much about delivering the best parties we can and refuse to rush major changes that don’t fit with our ethos for it to continue at this time."
