Somerset County Council and Avon and Somerset Police have launched a new road safety campaign for motorcyclists.

The authority's Road Safety team are looking to raise awareness of advanced riding techniques. Motorcyclists make up just 1-2% of traffic, but 21-23% of all road casualties in the UK.

The Raise your Ride campaign is being carried out with public events across the county, where riders can learn necessary knowledge and theory to be used when out driving.

Three events are being held over the summer in Wellington (23 May), Frome (20 June) and Yeovil (5 September).

It's £45 per person to attend the events and you'll need to bring a full Cat A or A1 licence and a motorcycle that can comfortably reach the national speed limit.

A spokesperson for Somerset Road Safety said: “Raise your Ride is a truly great initiative and it is great that we have collaborated with the Police and many other partners regionally to deliver this important knowledge to the public.

“All the events in Somerset are currently open to the public and we encourage any motorcyclists to sign up and make our roads a safer place.”
