The persistent rainy conditions in south-west England show no signs of stopping, as the Met Office forecasts continued downpours through the weekend.

Rain has fallen every day in 2026 in south-west England and South Wales, and forecasters say that there is no end in sight to the wet weather.

The Met Office issued a yellow rain warning which began at 5am on Thursday and continues until 9pm today for areas including south-west England.

Heavy showers will pound the region again on Friday, progressing northwards with severe bursts.

Forecast for South West England

During January, south-west England experienced 50% more rainfall than usual, making it the 12th wettest on record for the month.

Saturday will see further showers in the south-west, with rain slowly pushing into Wales and the Midlands.

Sunday remains bleak for southern and western parts of the UK, as another band of rain is expected.

Weather Impacts

Some surface water flooding is likely due to already saturated ground, according to the Met Office.

A few homes and businesses face potential flooding, and transport services may face disruption.

Power outages could also occur briefly.

The wet weather is driven by a large area of high pressure to the north and east of the UK, preventing low-pressure systems from moving through.

"Very little in the way of change," Dan Stroud, Met Office operational meteorologist, said:

"We've got the jet stream way to the south, bringing exceptional wet weather to Spain and Portugal."
