Police worked into the night after 'Kill The Bill' protest turned violent

Violent protests last night in Bristol against the government's new policing bill have been criticised - after two officers suffered broken bones.

A police station was attacked, vehicles set on fire and fireworks thrown.

Around 300 officers from across the South West were called to the city last night.

The city's mayor says he has major concerns about the proposed laws which tackle demonstrations, but that the incident will be used to justify them.

The demo had begun as a peaceful rally in opposition to the government's policing bill - which would allow forces to impose conditions on protests.

The Home Secretary's called the scenes 'unacceptable'
