Person dies in Taunton after incident on train line

The British Transport Police earlier confirmed the people died at the scene

A person has died this afternoon - after police reported a casualty on the tracks in Taunton.

Paramedics were called to the scene at just before 2pm, with GWR reporting all lines were blocked between the town and Exeter St Davids.

In a statement sent to us earlier, a spokesperson from the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Taunton at 1.52pm on 6 July following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

There has been a lot of disruption on the train lines all afternoon following the incident, with the lines blocked for much of the afternoon.

Normal service resumed at about 6pm this evening, with Great Western Railway confirming the status on Twitter: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Taunton and Exeter St Davids, all lines have now reopened.

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

"Disruption is still expected until 18:00."
