A murder investigation is underway in Glastonbury after a man was fatally stabbed overnight.

It happened on Chilkwell Street at around 11:45pm on Easter Monday (18 April).

The victim was found inside an address with serious injuries and was given first aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who was also in the property was taken to hospital after suffering stab wounds herself; she was later arrested in connection with the incident.

Chief Inspector Andrew Pritchard said he understands this will be "shocking" for the local community.

"We’d like to reassure them a thorough investigation is already being carried out, led by detectives from our Major Crime Investigation Team," he said.

“We’re working hard to establish the full circumstances which led to the tragic death of a man and while our inquiry is at a very early stage, we are confident this is an isolated incident.

“Efforts to confirm his identity and locate his next of kin are ongoing as we look to inform them of his death as soon as we can.”

A forensic tent has been set up outside the property while specialist crime scene investigators examine the area.

A road closure is also in place at the A361 roundabout connecting Chilkwell Street and Bere Lane, while the local neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out extra patrols in the area to reassure residents.
