A man has been charged with attempted murder after the stabbing of a woman in Bath on Monday (26 February).

The woman in her 20s was attacked in Dransfield Way at around 4:20pm in the afternoon.

She is now in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Matthew Jones (28), from Ivy Avenue in the Southdown area of Bath is due to appear before Bath Magistrates Court today (29 February).

"Detectives continue to investigate what happened and are currently treating this as an isolated incident, having found no evidence of any wider risk to the public," a statement from Avon and Somerset Police reads.

Extra reassurance patrols are planned in the area, however.

It comes as the force has recently announced a new operation to tackle knife crime in Bristol, after a spate of recent incidents in the city, including the deaths of three teenagers.

"If you are concerned or worried that someone you know may be involved or at risk of serious violence, involving knife crime, please report it via 101, online on Avon and Somerset Police’s website, or by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111," a spokesperson for the police said.
