A man is still being questioned by officers, after the death of an elderly woman.

Emergency Services were called to an address in Broomfield on Monday evening - to reports of a burglary in progress.

They found a woman in her 80s, who was badly injured.

Despite best efforts of paramedics and officers, she sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police say they later arrested a man in connection with the incident, and used a police helicopter and a dog unit to locate him.

The man, who is in his 30s, remains in police custody at this time.

The woman's next of kin have been informed and are being supported b specially trained family liaison officers.

Specialist crime scene investigators are currently examining the property, whilst a forensic post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector, Justin French says "A cordon is in place, while enquiries are carried out".

"We understand events like this, while rare, may cause alarm and distress in the community. We would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to one of our officers".
