Last year Lyra Cole's charity version of her favourite Christmas song Sir Cliff Richard’s When A Child is Born reached the top spot in the Amazon songs Christmas downloads chart - and raised £10k for charity.

Lyra will release her version of Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone on December 4 to try and help other children in a similar position - and the singer has personally congratulated her and offered a message of support.

Lyra was just five months old when she underwent surgery to remove a low-grade choroid plexus papilloma and within months Lyra was struggling to see - and underwent a second procedure a year later which thankfully restored her sight.

Now aged seven, Lyra has filmed a video set on The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare to accompany the single which also features her brother Charlie, four.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "We are extremely grateful to Lyra and her family for helping to raise awareness of this devastating disease and are excited to see how close she can get to the coveted number one slot this year."

16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year, according to charity Brain Tumour Research.

The charity also says the disease kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

All of the money raised through the sales of Lyra’s festive single will go to the charity.
