Man charged with knife and drug possession offences in Weston-super-Mare

A man is due in court today charged with knife and drug possession offences in Weston-Super-Mare.

The 44-year-old was arrested off Winterstoke Road in the early hours of yesterday morning (March 4th) when officers stopped a vehicle after a concerned member of the public got in touch with the force.

Raymond Staples from Rydal Road has been remanded into custody, whilst a 20-year-old arrested at the scene has been released with no further action.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police added: "The 44-year-old has since been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, plus possession of class A (cocaine) and class B (cannabis) drugs. He was remanded to appear at North Somerset Courthouse today (Tuesday 5 March).

"A 20-year-old man was also arrested at the scene. He has been released from custody with no further action following police interview."
