'I just want to inspire my home town with dance' says show director
After deciding at 14 that the Somerset arts scene needed more support, there will be a homecoming of sorts for James Bamford
A Somerset man - who at 14 wanted to make dance more accessible - will this month return home to try and inspire the community where he grew up.
Now aged 20, James Bamford has set up a so-called ‘project dance’ and is staging a show at Yeovil's Westlands on August 30.
He said: "Dance has an incredible power to have an enormous effect on people for the better and when I made Project Dance, six years ago now, the founding ethos was on making dance more accessible."
James says his production of All That Matters 'delves into the essence of human emotions, offering a powerful reminder of the importance of treasuring life’s fleeting moments'.
"It's a really emotionally-driven production and it's the idea that we are telling a new story through dance - so as a posed to taking a fairy tale or taking inspiration from a film, a play or a novel, we are creating a story and telling it for the first time entirely through dance.
“I’m delighted that company will tour this summer once again, this time to beloved returning and exciting new venues.
"The expansion of the tour will also provide an even more enriching experience for the young and emerging professional dancers cast in the show."
The production will be staged at Exeter's Northcott on Thursday 29th August and Yeovil's Westlands Entertainment Venue on Friday 30th August
