M5 upgrades delayed yet again
Work on the 'concrete carriageway' put back to at least mid-2025
A multi million pound set of upgrades to a vital road in Somerset has yet again been delayed.
Back in July 2020, the then-County Council received Government cash to resurface the roundabout at junction 26 of the M5 and the Chelston Link Road to Wellington
It's now been confirmed work on the so-called 'concrete carriageway' near Wellington won't start until mid-2025 at the earliest.
A council spokesperson said: "It is our intention to undertake construction in mid-2025 having regard to works planned elsewhere on the strategic highway network."
"We will be using the intervening period to plan delivery."
The funding for the scheme is ring-fenced, meaning it cannot be re-allocated to other transport projects or day-today spending on road network maintenance.
