Emergency services were quickly on the scene this morning after a 44 tonne HGV overturned near Langport. The vehicle had left the road and landed on its side in a field with the driver still inside.

Fire engines from Somerton and Bridgwater were dispatched to the scene, along with rescue and support vehicles from Taunton.

Within fifteen minutes of arriving at the scene of the incident, the fire crews were able to release the driver unharmed. They were also able to stem the diesel leaking from the HGV's fuel tanks. Because of the leaking tanks, the Environment Agency were informed.

The incident scene has now been left in the hands of the police.
