The Golden Retriever Experience in Carhampton has had its licence revoked following an inspection from Somerset Council.

The dog attraction near Minehead lost the licence on the grounds of protecting the welfare of the animals as well as breaching license conditions and regulations.

Following vital evidence from the RSPCA, licensing officers visited the site and discovered standards had slipped since the premises was first granted a licence in May 2023.

In a statement, the council said:

"Following a short investigation and, having considered vital evidence disclosed by the RSPCA, Somerset Council has revoked their license with immediate effect.

"Somerset Council urges residents and visitors to report any animal welfare concerns regarding licensed businesses via the Somerset Council website.

"This case shows that failing to look after animals and breach licence conditions has consequences and that Council staff will act quickly."

A spokesperson for the RSPCA said:

“An investigation is now ongoing so we can’t go into any further detail at this time.

“We’re grateful to people who report their concerns to us but we cannot comment any further as we are unable to discuss ongoing enquiries about specific individuals and what action may be taken.

“We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future investigation or could lead to us being fined.”

We have approached The Golden Retriever Experience for comment.
