Full funding for Bridgwater Town Deal projects
£23.2 million has to be spent on 11 projects in the town by 2026
The full £23.2million funding for Bridgwater has been secured following government approval of the final three business cases within the Bridgwater Town Deal, ensuring all eleven projects will now go ahead.
The cash most recently confirmed will be going towards improvements to Bridgwater Carnival, Docks Restoration works, and walking and cycling routes.
All 11 projects must be complete by 2026 - with work now able to start of the three most recently funded, but what changes will we see?
Bridgwater Carnival
£3 million is being allocated for the famous Carnival - which will deliver new workshops to safeguard the event's future and encourage more community participation.
Cash will also go to redeveloping existing Carnival shed sites off the A38 Bristol Road.
Bridgwater Docks Restoration
Restoration of the historic Docks quarter, creating a new residential, leisure and tourism destination in the town.
£4.2 million will be spent on commercial regenation and growth, as well as creating a sustainable and appealing living environment
It will see the Docks area reconnect with the town.
Walking and Cycling
£1 million will be spent delivering walking and cycling links between local employment areas and Bridgwater town centre, and the Docks area.
This project will widen the opportunity for active travel, affordable access to employment areas and increased leisure.
Bridgwater was chosen as one of 101 towns that would receive investment through the government’s Towns Fund scheme as part of its Levelling Up programme.
The £23.2million investment will fund eleven different projects in the town, with the aim being to ‘level up’ the area and create a vibrant and welcoming town centre.
This will be achieved by revitalising the social, cultural and economic offerings in town centre, as well as unlocking future growth by resolving traffic congestion and protecting the area from tidal flooding.
