Red flood warning still in place across parts of Somerset
It follows days of rain across the region - with six locations in Somerset under a 'red' warning from the Environment Agency
Following days of rain, a number of locations across Somerset are still under a 'flood alert' by the Environment Agency.
The rain is still coming across the region, with the Met Office saying more downpours are on the way until the early hours of tomorrow morning (Wednesday, Jan 4).
The flood alerts in place
In addition to the six flood warnings in Somerset - where flooding is expected - there are also 10 more alerts where flooding is possible.
A little further afield, a number of red alerts are also in force east of the county, towards Dorset, and near to the New Forest National Park.
Across our region, though, those in the affected regions are being urged to take action in case flooding breaches roads and houses.
According to the Check for Flooding Service, red warnings are in place across Curry Moor and Hay Moor; at the Devils Brook; at the Hooke; across the Piddle Valley; at the Sydling; and in the Cerne Valley.
What to do in a flood
If you, or anyone you know, is impacted by a flood, the Environment Agency advise you to take these steps:
If the flood alert is 'Prepare' or 'amber':
- Prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents
- Check flood warnings
If the flood alert is 'Act' or 'red':
- Turn off gas, water and electricity
- Move things upstairs or to safety
- Move family, pets and car to safety
If the flood alert is 'Survive' or 'dark red':
- Call 999 if in immediate danger
- Follow advice from emergency services
- Keep yourself and your family safe
