A risk of flooding remains in place across parts of Somerset today (21 February) after heavy rain this morning - and over the past few days right across the West Country.

Travel Somerset have confirmed three of the four emergency road closure gates are closed amid the latest bout of rainfall, with drivers urged to take alternative routes.

These are:

  • Cutts Road (East Lyng to Athelney)
  • New Road (West Lyng to North Curry)
  • Langport Road (Muchelney to Langport)

The A361 between Burrowbridge and East Lyng remains open.

These closures also come amid the ground already being saturated amid the winter weather, with the Environment Agency confirming pumps are operating at Langport and Currymoor - and will continue to do so until the risk of flooding has subsided.

Drivers are being urged to NOT travel through roads which look like they've been flooded - and residents in affected areas by flood warnings are urged to 'act now'.

Currently (as of 15:30) these are around Glastonbury, Street, and Frome - as well as just north of the Mendip Hills.
