Fire breaks out in Taunton restaurant
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene early this morning
A fire this morning broke out at a popular Taunton restaurant - before spreading to a next door building.
Devon and Somerset Fire Service have now confirmed that the fire started in the kitchen area of the Bare Grills Restaurant before spreading to an adjacent property.
Following initial investigations, the fire caused a significant level of damage to the restaurant and a dental practice.
They say the restaurant suffered 25% fire damage and 50% smoke damage.
Next door, the dental practice which was also impacted by the fire has suffered from 100% smoke damage, as well as 20% fire damage and 30% water damage as the fire service tried to put it out in the early hours of the morning.
On their website, Devon and Somerset Fire Service said: "Fire control received a report of smoke and flames issuing from a commercial property at the above location.
Crews arrived and were immediately presented with a three storey commercial property with smoke and flames issuing at the rear of the property.
"Shortly after arriving, an assistance message was receiving requesting the attendance of further fire appliances bringing the total to 6.
"This was shortly escalated to 10 pumping appliances and 2 aerial ladder platforms. Police and ambulance are currently in attendance assisting fire crews."
At the height of the fire, ten engines were on the scene at Bare Grills Smokehouse on Bridge Street - which caught alight at around 5.30 this morning.
At the time of the last update at 10.51am this morning, the fire service said crews were using 6 breathing apparatus, 3 hose reel jets, 2 attack jets, 1 thermal imaging camera, and 3 safety jets.
Fire officers are still on the scene - as an investigation into how it started is carried out but nobody has reported to have been injured.
