Somerset Council are warning drivers this afternoon to avoid the A358 this afternoon after a serious crash yesterday (14 February).

It happened near Hatch Beauchamp, with the road remaining closed in both directions for emergency repairs and resurfacing following the incident which saw a driver airlifted to hospital.

Motorists are urged need to find alternative routes if planning to travel between Taunton and the Ilminster roundabout, with the local authority saying their Highways Team reacted 'swiftly' after the crash, which happened on one of the 'county's busiest routes' at around 4pm yesterday.

An emergency road closure was immediately put place and Highways Teams organised a clear up after a significant diesel spill, which led to emergency repair work being carried out to a 60 metre stretch of both lanes.
