Drivers on the A396 Brook Street are warned of an emergency closure this afternoon.

Diversions in Timberscombe are in place as a number of residents have been left without water following a significant leak.

It's reported the closure is likely to remain over the weekend.

In a statement, Travel Somerset said: "Wessex Water has an emergency closure in Timberscombe on the Dunster to Timberscombe Road. This is due to a significant water leak on the A396, just north of the junction of Brook Street, Timberscombe, which has left several residents without water.

"The road will be reopened as soon as possible but the closure is likely to be in place over the weekend and into the start of next week, with a diversion in place during that time. For more information on the works please contact Wessex Water direct."

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We have been working on a repair to a burst water main in Timberscombe since this morning, which unfortunately required a road closure for our team to work safely. The repair is now complete, so we hope to start returning the water supply to affected customers shortly and lift the road closure as soon as we can.”
