The council will seek to end its activities on 30th September 2023.

It says operations in the building currently run at a substantial loss and a £1.8 million deficit has been accumulated in the last 11 years.

It says this decision will enable resources to be focused on its statutory duties.

The council has leased the 16th century house since September 1966.

"Regrettably a deficit has accumulated over the past 11 years of more than £1.8million"

The lease currently has a break clause in March 2023 - which would allow the tenant or landlord to end the tenancy early.

But the council says it will try to adjust the terms to ensure all weddings booked for next summer will go ahead.

During early months of the pandemic, it was used as a coronavirus vaccination centre.

It's also been used as a centre for Adult Education, conferences, and business meetings.
