Somerset fail to defend T20 Blast title
It ends the county's hopes of winning domestic competitions in all forms of the game
Somerset have failed to defend their T20 Blast title, after losing to West Country rivals Gloucestershire.
The holders, who were favourites going into the final, lost by eight wickets.
After beating Sussex by four wickets in the semi-final earlier on Saturday, Somerset struggled to score on a sluggish Edgbaston pitch, and were bowled out for 124.
Gloucestershire's openers then put on 112 for the first wicket, as they chased down the target of 125 with five overs to spare.
Defeat ended the 2005 and 2023 champions' hopes of becoming the first side to defend the T20 Blast title.
It also ended Somerset's hopes of becoming the first English side in 29 years to win domestic competitions in all formats.
Somerset batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore said they "didn't get enough runs on the board."
"It really hurts tonight but you win and lose games and when it is that comfortable you have to accept that you were nowhere good enough on the night.
"So fair play to Gloucestershire, congratulations to them - all we can do is move on to the next game."
Somerset next play Lancashire on Tuesday as they seek to win their first County Championship title.
They also face Hampshire as they seek to close an eight point gap to two-time defending champions Surrey with just two games left.
Somerset also play Glamorgan in the One Day Cup final at Trent Bridge on 22 September.
