Councillor chimes in on Weston donkey row
A petition calling for the rides to be scrapped is nearing a thousand signatures
A North Somerset Councillor is hitting back at suggestions online, that donkey rides in Weston Super Mare should be scrapped.
They've been offered on the seafront for more than 100 years, but a petition calling for them to stop over welfare concerns, has been signed nearly a thousand times.
Mike Solomon who's in charge of culture and leisure at the council says the animals are very well looked after.
He says: "The same families have been running them for generations, they're well cared for"
"They don't start work until they're four, they go to grass in the winter, they're rotated so they don't work all day"
"I think, quite frankly, it's a bit of a storm in a teacup"
