Council invites public to express views on industrial flood risk proposals

Proposals aim to reduce flood risk at Tonedale Mill and Tone Works

Author: Chris TatePublished 10th Feb 2024

Somerset Council's asking for your views on proposals aimed at reducing flood risk to important industrial sites at Tonedale Mill and Tone Works.

Both sites were at the centre of Wellington’s cloth industry with generations of local people working at the mills. But their location makes them vulnerable to flooding.

The council want to know your thoughts on the works which are set to reduce flood risk, protect heritage and improve the local landscape. It comes amid the 10th anniversary of the devastating floods of 2014.

The public can review the proposals and provide feedback by visiting the project website.

Respondents can email responses to planningpolicywest@somerset.gov.uk, or post it to Planning Policy, Somerset Council, County Hall, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY.

The project team will also be available to discuss any questions at Wellington Library at the following dates and times;

20 February 2024, 12pm until 2pm

21 February 2024, 3pm until 5pm

23 February 2024, 3pm until 5pm

The consultation runs until 4 March 2024. All responses should be submitted by 23:59pm on 4 March 2024.
