A cordon has been lifted after a suspicious package was found under a parked car outside Cheddar Police Station.

It was spotted just after 10 this morning - where a cordon was put in place.

Police contacted neighbouring Kings of Wessex Academy to provide reassurance during the incident - which remained open.

It's now been determined the package doesn't pose a threat - the police station is now back open.

Avon and Somerset Police Statement:

At 10.10am this morning a suspicious package was found under the wheel of a parked police car outside Cheddar Police Station.

As a precaution, the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called and quickly determined the package did not pose a threat.

A cordon put in place while the EOD attended has been lifted and the police station, which was briefly closed, is now open again.

Neighbourhood officers spoke with The Kings of Wessex Academy to provide them with reassurance at the time and the school remained open while emergency services responded.

We’d like to thank the public for their patience while the package was assessed and like to reassure people the measures taken were purely precautionary and in the interests of public safety.
