A contractor's been taken on for the 5-million pound plus plans to improve the Dunball roundabout near Bridgwater.

It links to Junction 23 of the M5 and the work will improve signalling there and speed-up traffic flows. It aims to reduce the chances of traffic being backed up onto the motorway at busy times.

The plan will also see enhanced pedestrian and cycling access as part of the scheme’s commitment to Active Travel provision. As a result, there will be improved cycling and walking links into Bridgwater.

The project is being jointly funded by Sedgemoor District Council, the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and National Highways, as well as the government's Levelling Up fund.

After the completion of the design stage, work is expected to start next year.

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with Balfour Beatty on this important scheme, which demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in the county’s network and ensuring it can meet future demand."
