Concerns over the way fireworks are sold in shops across the West Country
Trading Standards inspected 49 outlets and found nine were 'not compliant with legal regulatory requirements'
Almost one in ten of shops selling fireworks across Devon and Somerset were not storing them safety - according to trading standards.
They inspected 49 outlets and found nine were 'not compliant with legal regulatory requirements' ranging from minor to significant concerns. Two of the businesses required immediate attention due to their location near other buildings and residential areas.
Fakir Mohamed Osman, Head of the Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service, highlighted the critical nature of these inspections and said: “Many fireworks are expected to be sold in the lead up to the festive period and ahead of New Year celebrations and our priority is to ensure that fireworks are stored and sold safely.
“Improper storage of fireworks can lead to severe risks, not only for business owners but also for the public. We are dedicated to working alongside businesses to resolve any issues and foster a culture of safety and compliance.”
