One man remains in police custody after a man was found with significant head injuries in a woodland in Bath.

Officers were alerted to an incident taking place in woods off The Weal in the Weston area just after 3am on Wednesday (June 4th).

When responders from Avon and Somerset Police arrived at the scene, they found that a man was found with head injuries in a tent in the woodland area.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained, which officers say is not believed to be life-threatening.

Following lines of investigation, three men in their thirties were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder a short time later.

Enquiries are ongoing, the force said, as two of the men arrested have been released on bail pending further investigation.

However, one man remains in police custody as officers continue their investigations into the attack.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Inspector Scott Hill from Avon and Somerset Police said that residents in the local area will see an increased presence from the police in the area.

"We don't believe there is any wider risk to the public as the individuals involved are understood to be known to one another," he said.

"Uniformed neighbourhood officers will be in the area today, supporting the investigation, so if you have any concerns, do please speak with them."

Investigations remain at an early stage, as an appeal for information remains open.

Those who may have any information can get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 522515003.
