70 extra officers for Avon and Somerset Police
The PCC says she 'strongly supports' the Government's commitment
Avon and Somerset Police is to get an extra 70 officers on the streets, following a Government pledge to invest more into neighbourhood policing.
The announcement is due to bring 13,000 more officers to the frontline across the country by 2029.
That's been welcomed by our Police and Crime Commissioner, Clare Moody.
In an open letter she's said she 'strongly supports' the Government's commitment, saying it 'plays a crucial role in making our communities feel safe and building trust and confidence in policing locally'.
Ms Moody says Avon and Somerset Police deploy experienced officers into these additional roles, as well as recruiting new officers to replace those who are moved into these roles.
She also says increasing visibility of police and making town and city centres safer fits in with her own local vision:
"The first priority within my Police and Crime Plan is to strengthen neighbourhood policing to provide a visible police presence, engage with communities, and tackle anti-social behaviour. These additional officers are an important step in delivering the change this priority requires."
