Pictures reveal extent of damage after 35 cars destroyed at Somerset business

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have shared images of last night's blaze - which saw 35 vehicles destroyed in a fire at a commercial business just outside of Wellington.

It happened last night, with the service telling us they received reports of cars alight in West Buckland at around 10pm.

Crews from around the area attended the scene.

Last night, fire control received a call from a member of the public stating there were a couple of cars on fire - and control immediately sent two engines to attend the scene from the Wellington fire station.

Once on scene, crews confirmed a large number of vehicles were well alight, and so they mobilised a third engine to attend the scene, as well as a a Water Bowser from stations at Taunton and Bridgwater.

Shortly after, crews requested a fourth appliance be mobilised from Taunton, as the fire ripped through the cars.

Two Breathing Apparatus and 1 Compressed Air Foam Jet were also called out, as well as an Aerial Ladder Platform - with engines coming from as far away as Torquay.

Crews confirmed this was a fire within a commercial compound involving approximately 35 cars in total, all vehicles have been 100% damaged by fire.

In total, the blaze was extinguished using, 4 Breathing Apparatus, 3 Attack Jets, 1 Aerial Ladder Platform, Small Tools, and roughly 35Litres of Compressed Air Foam.

The incident was handed over to the premises owner and the Police.

They are now investigating the cause of the fire - which is now unknown.
