'We'll need a second skip' joke organisers after 120 people enter this year's spoof Somerset Turnip prize
The shortlist has been announced for this year’s spoof annual Turnip prize with the winner announced on December 1.
Last updated 18th Nov 2020
The award is usually timed to coincide with the annual Turner prize - which isn't being given out this year due to the pandemic.
Entries for the Turnip prize this year include a ball of fur called ‘fur load’ and a toy baby with its back to a plant called ‘Back To The Fushcia”.
Trevor Prideaux came up with the competition idea in the late 90s after seeing Tracey's Emin's bed - and joking 'the good people of Wedmore and Somerset could make equally bad art'.
Each year the spoof competition attracts entries from around the world and the winner is often covered in international media.
The 2020 Turnip Prize award will be announced online as a result of the lockdown restrictions.
Mr Prideaux joked: "This year we have received a record number of entries, crossing the 100 mark for the second time in succession – 120 in total! We have ordered a second skip!"
