"Bristol's Tier One Plus is confusing" warns Somerset council leader

Bristol’s ‘Tier One Plus’ status is confusing - that’s the view of Somerset county council’s leader who says he has no plans to follow suit.

Bristol’s Mayor announced the change last week saying it would allow more local enforcement and control to help stop the virus spreading so quickly.

But Somerset’s David Fothergill doesn’t believe adding more tiers is the right approach.

Last week Torbay Council's public health director warned the area could end up in a Tier Three lockdown unless certain members of the community took the virus threat more seriously.

Cllr Fothergill worries that Somerset is 'heading in the wrong direction' and could see further restrictions placed on it.

When asked about Bristol's 'Tier One Plus' plan, he said: "I think the question for us, if you introduce Tier One Plus what does it mean?

"People just get confused - or even Two Plus.

"I think we have to give people clear messages and at the moment we've got a clear message - if we move to Tier Two it will be clear."
