Zebra crossings to be installed on Churchfields Road in Salisbury
It's part of the Station Forecourt Scheme
New zebra crossings are to be installed on Churchfields Road in Salisbury as part of the Station Forecourt scheme.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the road while work is carried out, with the road being reduced to a single lane.
The work will see changes made to the kerb line on both sides of the near the rear pedestrian entrance to Salisbury Railway Station.
The work will take place in two phases.
The first phase will be on the north side of the road, where the traffic management will be in place:
• Between 11 November and 15 November for a 24-hour period
• Between 18 November and 22 November between 8am and 4pm only
During the second phase, on the south side of the road, the traffic management will be in place:
• Between 25 November and 29 November for a 24-hour period
• Between 2 December and 6 December between 8am and 4pm only
During both phases the traffic management will be removed at weekends.
It's all part of the on-going Station Forecourt scheme which aims to create a more attractive, and welcoming environment for visitors and local people. The project is part of the £9 million investment from the Future High Streets Fund.
Cllr Tamara Reay, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “As part of our business plan, we’re committed to ensuring residents live in well-connected communities. A key feature of the Station Forecourt scheme is making the station more accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or delays caused by these works and the traffic management, but it is essential to ensure the safety of the teams working to create the new zebra crossing.
“We would like to thank in particular the residents of Churchfields Road for their patience and continued co-operation in delivering this important scheme for Salisbury.”
