Some suspected World War Two munitions have been found in the River Avon in Salisbury - but police say there's no risk to the public.

A cordon was set up around Ashley Road as a precaution at around 10.45am today (Thursday 2nd March).

It was discovered by a member of the public who was magnet fishing in the river.

Wiltshire Police brought in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to assess the item found.

Experts found the historic object didn't contain any explosives.

Officers have thanked local people for their patience.

The cordon was lifted at around 1.00pm.
