The Wessex Rivers Trust and partner organisations will be joining the global World Fish Migration Day celebrations by hosting a fun and educational day in Salisbury today (Saturday May 21st).

We can head down to the Avon river at the Maltings from 10.00am to take part in activities to entertain and increase awareness of fish migration.

Many migratory fish species are critically endangered or threatened, including the Atlantic salmon; man-made barriers such as weirs and sluices disrupt the natural flow of rivers and block their migration.

You can learn more about the importance of opening up rivers and recovering migratory fish populations, and discover what changes are being made to improve the health of local rivers and what you can do to help.

Visitors can look forward to a fish safari walk, fish flag decoration, face painting, a fish obstacle course, as well as fantastic interactive experiences and citizen science which demonstrate the challenges fish face during their migratory journeys.

The day's aimed at connecting hundreds of thousands of people around the world to protect rivers and fish.
