The owners of a Winterbourne Stoke campsite have been ordered to pay £8,600 between them, following a Wiltshire Council prosecution.

William and Susan Grant, who run Stonehenge Campsite and Glamping on Berwick Road, have been sentenced at Salisbury Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to multiple offences relating to their licence conditions.

They were found to be operating the site without a valid Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) – to ensure the site electrical installation is safe for continued use.

The certificate would have allowed them to use the site for residential accommodation, instead of the intended use as a caravan touring site.

William Grant has been fined a total of £2,600 over two charges, while Susan Grant received a fine of £600.

Additionally, William Grant has also been ordered to pay costs of £5,000.

Cllr Phil Alford, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“We have a very important role to play in ensuring the safety of campsites such as this, and this case highlights the importance of adhering to the legal requirements that govern the safe operation and proper usage of caravan sites.

"Failure to meet these obligations not only results in significant financial penalties but can also jeopardise the safety and wellbeing of site occupants. We will continue to take strong action and use all means available to us to prosecute campsites that endanger the public.”
