Drink driver from Winterbourne Gunner banned after falling asleep on A338

A man has been banned from driving after being found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle with the engine running in the middle of the A338.
Alinafe Mulenga, from Winterbourne Gunner, has been banned for 40 months with an 18-month community order.
He was discovered by officers at 3.00am on 28th July and attempted the start his vehicle when the officers woke him – despite the engine already running and the lights being on – in an attempt to drive away.
32 year old Mulenga continued his attempts at escape when he started to run away after police removed the keys from the car, before being detained.
After blowing 91 on the roadside breathalyzer, Mr Mulenga was take into police custody and plead guilty in court to three offences.
These were driving above the legal limit, driving without third party insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
PC Evans said: “Unfortunately finding drink drivers isn’t uncommon, but finding one asleep the middle of the road with the engine and lights running is.
At that time of the morning on the A338, with patchy fog, he could have caused a serious crash.
PC Evans added that Mr Mulenga not having a licence or insurance was "especially concerning".
“Drink driving is one of the main five causes of serious injury or deaths on our roads. If you suspect a driver is driving over the limit, please report ASAP”
