Students preparing for their GCSE exams in Wiltshire are being told they will have options open to them, regardless of the results they achieve.

Both Wiltshire College and the National Careers Service (NCS) have told Greatest Hits Radio that pupils mustn't "panic" if their results aren't what they hoped for.

Speaking at a Careers Fair in Salisbury, Senior Careers Advisor, Sophie Thompson, urged students take some time and reflect on what the results are.

She said advisors will help build a person's confidence as well as providing the reassurance that opportunities still remain.

Sophie said: "We can provide 1 to 1 support, we can look at different training providers, we can look at different careers, maybe apprenticeships, just looking at the different routes available."

She added: "Apprenticeships are a great alternative for people who don't want to maybe go into mainstream education or maybe are looking at going into a career that requires them to have a specific qualification that they might not have. They are a great alternative for people to train and earn at the same time."

Apprenticeships Manager at Wiltshire College, Helen Neufeld, also told us apprenticeships can be very beneficial for young people.

She said: "They're getting the chance to be in the workplace, learning those skills and gaining their qualification."

Helen told us that apprenticeships can offer the chance to retake GCSE's if they're required for the apprenticeship, adding: "a lot of apprenticeships don't require don't require those GCSE Maths and English, those skills can be learned in the job, so they're more contextual."

Wiltshire College apprenticeships can allow people to progress from level 2 to a degree-level qualification.
