Wiltshire students to tackle sustainability in schools
Students will give their ideas on sustainability
School children across Wiltshire will be celebrating Eco Week this week (from Monday 6th March), as Wiltshire Youth Council seeks to improve sustainability.
Students will be encouraged to create and share eco-friendly ideas for the schools.
Eco Week aims to raise awareness of environmental issues, offering the students a chance to come up with new ways to make school more eco-friendly.
Some of Wiltshire's Youth Council members have been sharing the details:
Cllr Laura Mayes, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said:
“As a council, we have a clear commitment in our work to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
We are really pleased young people have independently taken up the mission and are encouraging all our schools to talk about and bring in initiatives that will have a long-lasting impact in their own schools.”
Children will be able to get into a range of different activities that contribute to the protecting our environment, as well as promoting recycling within schools.
Participating schools will be encouraged to share photos and videos on social media with the hashtag #WYEcoWeek.
Previous ideas have included creating artwork from recycled materials and building new habitats for Wildlife.
