Four Salisbury Plain soldiers arrested in connection with serious assault in Andover

The MOD has confirmed four Wiltshire soldiers were among five men arrested in connection with a serious assault in Andover at the weekend.

Hampshire Police were called to Bridge Street near the junction with the High Street in the early hours of Saturday (15th October).

A man in his 20s was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, all have since been released.

An Army Spokesperson told Greatest Hits Radio Salisbury:

"We can confirm that four service personnel have been arrested by Hampshire Police regarding an incident in Andover on 15 Oct. As the incident is still under investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Three from Bulford age 18, 20 and 21, have been released on conditional bail

A 28 year old man from Perham Down and 18 year old from Andover have been released on unconditional bail.

Hampshire Police say their enquiries remain ongoing.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses and information in relation to the incident.
