Wiltshire roads needed 8th most extra cash for pothole fixes in 2023
The Council was given an extra £1,313 per mile to repair potholes last year
It's suggested that the state of Wiltshire's roads is among the worst in the country after figures revealed the local authority is among the top 10 for additional funding to repair potholes.
Data from accident compensation company, claims.co.uk, found Wiltshire is received an extra £1,300 per mile to repair potholes on the county's roads in 2023.
Wiltshire ranked as the eighth highest local authority getting extra cash from the Department for Transport, with the £1,313.61 of additional funding per mile is 13% above the national average of £1,163.80.
It follows the AA reporting a 16% increase in pothole-related incidents last year, recording 630,000 reports.
A spokesperson for claims.co.uk said the data highlighted areas where road quality could be of most concern.
“It’s interesting to see that nearly half of the 10 local authorities that received the most additional budget per mile are in Southeast England, suggesting potholes are more problematic in this region.
“In comparison, nearly half of the ten local authorities that were allocated the least additional budget per mile are in the Northeast of England, suggesting potholes are less of an issue here.”
