A group of seven dog handlers are raising money for retired dogs.

The group will run 62 miles, a combined 434, on behalf of WAGS Retired Police Dogs charity and almost £500 has already been donated to the fundraising page.

WAGS gives financial help with vets bills when the dogs have ended their working lives.

PC Cindy Hargeave’s former partner PD Tyke passed away last year and was supported by WAGS during his retirement.

Writing on the justgiving page, Cindy said: “I am forever grateful to this amazing charity for the support they gave me throughout the whole of Tykes retirement with many things, but especially in his last couple of years.

He was battling with liver issues and arthritis. They afforded me so much extra time with my soul dog. I miss him every moment of every day but draw strength from the extra time I had with him thanks to this fantastic charity.”

During their working lives, Police Dogs help detect crimes and locate the most vulnerable people in society. They can often be in dangerous situations and sometimes injured when protecting the public, police officers or detaining offenders.
