Wiltshire Police checking parents' cars for correctly fitted child seats

Wiltshire's Roads Policing Officers have been getting out across the county this week, to make sure children are being transported by car safely.
They're checking car seats to ensure they're fitted correctly, and speaking to parents about the importance of a safe seat.
The team will be in Salisbury today (Thursday 7th April), at the city's Fire Station on Ashley Road.
The operation will run between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
During a visit to Trowbridge on Tuesday (5th April), 60 car seats were checked by officers and the Wiltshire Road Safety Partnership.
Sgt Will Ayres, of the Roads Policing Unit, said:
“This was a really positive event which focused predominantly on education rather than enforcement, and of all the vehicles stopped, we were really pleased to see the majority were legal and sufficiently maintained to offer optimum protection should the vehicle ever be in a collision.
“The seats that were checked that did require attention mainly only needed a few small changes that the specially trained professionals from the Road Safety Partnership were able to offer, as well as further education for the drivers.
“There is nothing more precious than the life of a child, and small steps can ensure they are transported in the safest way possible, so I would urge drivers to be extra mindful and ensure the seats they use for their children are fitted correctly."
Drivers could be asked to pull in and have their car seats checked today, but families can also go along to the Fire Station voluntarily for piece of mind.
