Wiltshire mum who went shopping while son died, jailed for cruelty
Stacey Davis from Melksham will serve two years behind bars
A mum from Wiltshire, who's baby son died while she was out shopping, has been given two years in jail for child cruelty.
Stacey Davis, 35, from Melksham, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court following the death of a one-year-old boy back in June 2018.
During the case the court heard how Davis, who regularly smoked cannabis, had left her son at home in temperatures of 27 degrees with no windows open or fan.
It was later found the boy also had a fractured skull, which Davis said had happened during a fall, although she had never sought any treatment for the injury.
Upon returning home Davis did not immediately check on her son but when she eventually did, he was found lifeless.
He was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but could not be saved.
An exact cause of death has never been identified.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “I would like to offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of this young boy.
“Davis’ actions on the day her son died fell well below the duty she owed to him as his mother – she should have loved him, cared for him and put his welfare first, as any loving, doting parent would.
“It has been over four years since he died and I know that this has been an incredibly difficult time for everyone who knew and loved him.
“The investigation team have worked tirelessly on what has been a challenging and extremely upsetting case and their hard work has ensured it has now been followed through to its conclusion.”
