One of Wiltshire's MPs has praised the county, and the Council, for their efforts to recycle.

Andrew Murrison, who represents the area that includes Mere and Tisbury, says he's 'delighted' that the local authority's won an award for a recycling campaign.

Wiltshire Council have been recognised for a project that aimed to reduce the number of unrecyclable waste going to landfill.

It managed to cut the rates from 18% of the wrong rubbish going into black, bins, down to 10% in just four months.

The authority's also introduced sorting stations at its tips to help people further prevent recyclables from being disposed of incorrectly.

South West Wiltshire's Andrew Murrison has been campaigning against the use of incinerators to get rid of landfill waste too.

He says burning rubbish 'disincentivises recycling, because they require a constant feedstock' to keep going:

"I am delighted to see Wiltshire Council making such progress on recycling and this award is well deserved. The next obvious step in the campaign to move refuse up the waste hierarchy and encourage a circular economy, is to stop awful incinerators."
